Not only England. They’re referred to as “humanities” (or they would be, if it ever came up in conversation) in our school too, and I live in the US.
As for nico and the other luke see (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F54rqDh2mWA). Frankly, I think that the loss of humanities is very much a disaster to get exclamed.
