Who uses a calligraphy marker on an application of any kind? If you must do that, at least take the time to practice your penmanship.

I can’t imagine why there were no replies

I think 50 words or less is fine, as is 50 or fewer words. The fewer applies to 50. And less applies to the quantity formed by ’50 words’

I have less money than you. Money is most definitely countable. And I do not have “fewer” money than you.

Money is an abstract noun, so in itself it is not countable; you cannot have ‘monnies’.

Moneys or Monies, is acceptable, it seems. I think a good example would be talking about different forms of currency — or bartering material — being used to together and lumping them under the term moneys.

I guess since money is so often used as an abstract, like water, it’s odd to think of it in terms of referring to unique items.

how exactly does this look like it was written in adobe flash? there’s no animation. no tweening. it also isn’t even a flash document (swf). to me it looks as if it were written on paper, with a fountain pen. but for the sake of the intarnets, it was ‘shopped’. probably not, but then again who really cares. toodles.

I’m not talking about an animation. Have you used Flash before? It has a very nice calligraphy style brush that makes strokes just like that. That and the reason that the black dots are easily seen underneath the writing (opacity…) makes it seem possible. I’m not trying to poke holes in this or anything; I’m just suggesting the possibility… for the sake of the intrawebs. But it was probably just a nice pen.

I drew this with a graphics tablet and Adobe Photoshop elements 3.0 if I remember correctly (no paper was harmed in the making of this comic). Flash is unfortionately very expensive, and you can do layering and stuff on Photoshop quite well.
        Thanks for your comments!

Ummm. It’s not necessarily incorrect by the way. The last part of the sentence was intentionally left out (“or less […]”), yet this comment assumes it would have ended with “or less words”. In THAT case, yes, it would have been incorrect, but it could just as well have ended “or less than that”.

So it’s actually not necessarily a mistake!

As a language aficionado (or grammar Nazi as some people would say), I agree. The correct way to use “fewer” here would be to say “Describe yourself in 50 or fewer words”. “Describe yourself in 50 words or fewer” is less correct (or at least feels less correct/ more stilted) than “Describe yourself in 50 words or less”, because “less than that” is definitely implied here. It’s not quite the same situation as “12 items or less” in express checkout lanes because there it’s all about the exact number of items, but here it’s about how detailed the description should be.

actually, the way the question (well, order) is phrased it doesn’t imply “or less than that”. It implies “less words” (on the principle that you want to imply as little as possible). And “less words” is absolutely, demonstrably, incorrect.
