Just thought I’d point out that in French, ‘pipe’ is slang for ‘blow job,’ which makes this comic funny for an entirely different reason.

I approve. Especially since our class had recently learned about Magritte’s Treachery of Images
I honestly can’t stop laughing, definitely a thumbs up for Stumbleupon.

Oh god, I looked at it for ages like, “uhm… kay?”. Then I was about to stumble on and twigged, and burst out laughing.
This is the single funniest image I have ever seen on the internet, uncontested.

I actually own the shirt that Lyndi mentioned. I realize this makes me an extreme nerd, but in my defense:
A) It was a gift from a friend.
B) It’s the only nerdy shirt I own.
The downside is that everyone (here in America, at least) asks you what it means. The upside is that when you meet someone who actually gets it, you know that person is a keeper.

Yay for obscure Magritte jokes! I have a habit of labeling stuff beginning with “This is not a…” no one ever gets it.
Would have been funnier without 10 minutes of looking stuff up.
The question I pose to the rest of the class is this: Is this a representation of Mario missing Magritte’s point, or this is a representation of Mario breaking the fourth wall with surrealist wit?
Hint: Ask yourself “Am I laughing at Mario, or with him?”
Homework: In 500 words or less, respond to the preceding comic and comments in the context of ethical metaphysics and/or relativism in psychology.

The alt-text isn’t right though. Despite what the alt-text says, it is, in and of itself, the alt-text. The “ceci n’est pas un …” doesn’t apply with the alt-text, because a text by very nature is something depicted, while an object such as a pipe is not.
And why does the Italian plumber speak French?
