Apart from the whole ''denounce the evils of truth and love'' thing I always felt the Team Rocket motto cast them more as the good guys.

Denounce is not the same as expose. It’s actually almost the opposite. Yeah, I never really understood that line.

@Alectric- Actually, denounce is just about the same as expose: “to condemn or censure openly or publicly”. “to make known, disclose, or reveal”

There is a significant difference: denounce is always negative. Expose can be positive.

While “expose” can be positive, if you were exposing “the evils of”, it’s a fair bet that it’s negative.

It’s a spin on the Team Rocket introduction from Pokemon cartoons.

I liked it already, but the part that really got me was the “previous slide” and “next slide” titles.

This is spectacular. Currently wondering what the presentation says about their, um, “exit strategy”, though…

I love it. I didn’t get it the first time, but once I went back and read it again… genius. Those Previous and Next Slide markers are brilliant.

I believe there is a reason Jessie and James’ motto makes them sound like good guys. In a few episodes, we are introduced to two other Team Rocket operatives, Butch and Cassidy, with a similar motto: “To INFECT the world with devastation / To BLIGHT all peoples in every nation / To denounce the GOODNESS of truth and love / To extend our WRATH to the stars above.” I think this is the actual TR motto, and Jessie and James’ motto is meant to be a joke in the series because they don’t realize that they have the whole thing wrong and are in fact proclaiming ideals OPPOSITE of those of Team Rocket. I could be wrong and each pair could simply have a different variant of the motto, or it could be some horrible mistake perpetrated by the writers of the English script of the series, but that’s what makes the most sense to me.

Hooray, I just killed the joke.

I can’t believe that I couldn’t recall Team Rocket’s motto and had to look it up.

Great joke! I especially love the “Previous” and “Next” slides 😉

… I think Ash is really evil. He goes around catching these wild animals and make them fight until they cant even stand up. Remind anyone of dogfighting?

I feel dumb for not realizing this was a Team Rocket reference at first. I’ve played quite a bit of pokemon in my day…
