  1. Luke says:

I believe a more likely reason concerns latent heat of freezing and all that jazz, but this explaination is cooler (pun totally intended)

  2. danineteen says:

    “Just gimme the damn drink.”

  3. Evan says:

I lol’ed. Science wise, it’s the same reason why you can superheat water in a microwave, right?

  4. Tony says:

Wow, that’s an awesome comic. Seriously.

  5. Laurence From York says:

AMT! Episode 92, I asked this question and couple of others!
Nice one, Luke, this’s my favorite comic yet.
Also I was at AMT! 100 too. It was awesome

  6. Trevory says:

    Nice one Luke!
I was kinda expecting brain freeze at the end…

  7. Luke says:

@Laurence From York Wow! An AMT fan! And you do know I wrote this cartoon as a response to your question?! ( http://answermethis.wordpress.com/2009/04/14/supercool/ ). Those of you who do not know what we’re talking about, chech out out the Answer Me This podcast.

    • Laurence from York says:

Well in that case I’m going to assume that the guy in this comic is an artist’s interpritation of me and the waiter is a young Martin the Soundman.

  8. Chris says:

    I just have to say…

Nice word-balloon wrap around the customer’s head!

  9. Danno says:

Erm, wouldn’t the drinks be impure though?

Perhaps the colligative properties present due to the sugars in the solution would actually be a more practical?

  10. MrGBH says:

They could be ice-cold flavoured water.

But the reason the waiter was saying is the correct one, there are even some vids on Youtube of bottles of -0C water being tapped lightly, causing them to freeze. They’re really cool.

  11. Nef says:

Never seen that effect with the word balloon… The customer got “wrapped-up” by the conversation…

    Really cool!

  12. Chris says:

+1 to “great wrap around with the speech balloon.”
